Protected areas are those in which human occupation or at least the exploitation of resources is limited. An area of 340 Km2 is being managed as protected area under 13 wildlife Sanctuaries, 4 Conservation Reserve and 3 Community Reserves. Punjab has total 21 wetlands. Out of these 12 are natural and 9 are manmade wetlands.
